Community LinksWinchelsea Primary School’s Community Links – Intergenerational Program
Each week, our Grade 6 students step beyond the classroom and into the heart of our community through our Community Links Intergenerational Program. Every fortnight, they visit the residents of Hesse Rural Health, where they share in activities like gardening and bingo while fostering friendships across generations. On alternating weeks, they spend time playing and learning alongside the children at Journey Early Learning Childcare Centre or engaging with the curious minds at Helen M Kininmonth Preschool, ensuring meaningful connections are built and strengthened throughout the months. These visits are a highlight for everyone involved and continue to strengthen community ties.
As the year progresses, our Community Links Intergenerational Program will help our students grow in confidence, empathy, and communication. The impact is felt by all, as students develop important social skills, while the residents of Hesse and the children at the early learning centres enjoy companionship, connection, and moments of joy. These shared experiences create strong bonds and enrich the lives of everyone involved
