Who We Are
A Word

From Our Principal

Hello,

I warmly welcome you to our school website and thank you for taking an interest in our school. We hope that as you navigate through the information on our pages that you get a real sense of what life and learning is like here at Winchelsea Primary School.

We are so proud of our students and our community!

We believe in ensuring that all of the students that walk through our gates participate in learning that allows them to reach their full potential academically, socially and emotionally.

Everything we do is driven by the needs of the students and our school values. At Winchelsea Primary School we live by our values:

  • Be Kind
  • Be Safe
  • Learn Well

The foundation of our positive school culture is the active participation of all members of the school community so they feel valued, safe and secure; are provided with meaningful opportunities to contribute to the school; and have every opportunity to meet their personal and educational potential. A key component of the school’s approach is teaching and celebrating positive behaviours.

We achieve inclusivity by ensuring that:

  • We focus on need
  • We get to know our students
  • We celebrate diversity
  • We promote regulation
  • Language and communication are seen as vital tools for success

Students develop their social and personal capabilities through the Resilience Project and the Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships.

Our students are G.E.M.s!

They are Grateful, Empathetic and Mindful!

Our school’s instructional model has been developed in consultation with school staff and is based on current research. It incorporates all of the elements of a structured lessons and provides teachers with a reasonable timing framework. The Gradual Release of Responsibility is used to increase student independence in learning as the lessons progresses. Key teaching approaches are used at every stage of the model.

At Winchelsea Primary School our dedicated staff are committed to reflecting on and improving their practice. Our culture of continuous improvement means that our own goals align directly with the improvement initiatives set for the school. We are committed to ensuring all students achieve high levels of success. This requires us to be collaborative. We develop our own goals in collaboration with colleagues so that we are engaging in genuine action research. We celebrate successes and openly reflect as a professional learning community. Our systems also provide us with the opportunity to share great practice and this enables us to provide high consistency across the school with reduced variability on agreed improvement initiatives.

The core work of our leadership team is focused on raising student achievement at all levels and all stages. We strive for equity and excellence and creating and sustaining the conditions under which quality teaching and learning thrive. Influencing, developing and delivering on community expectations and policy is a key component of our work. We are committed to contributing to the development of a twenty-first century education system.

Please do hesitate to contact us if you require further information about our school or to book a tour.

Happy browsing!
