Winchelsea Primary School
About Our SchoolPrincipal’s Welcome
I am privileged to write to you as the Acting Principal and welcome you to the Winchelsea Primary School website. Here at Winchelsea, our vision is to provide high quality academic and wellbeing outcomes for the children in Winchelsea and surrounding areas, as well as providing a central community meeting place for young people, their families and community members. This school is a place for every child to develop their individual talents and interests under the watchful guidance of engaged teachers. The school is striving to build a community of people who believe they can make a positive difference.
Winchelsea Primary is a school of 150 enrolments, servicing the township of Winchelsea and the surrounding farming community. Schooling is broken into four stages at our school – Prep, Grade 1 & 2, Grade 3 & 4 and Grade 5 & 6. Students take part in a rigorous curriculum in the foundational areas of reading, writing and numeracy. This is complimented by a wide range of curriculum enrichment programs, including Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Physical Education and Indonesian. Students in Grades 3-6 also participate in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program.
The school community is highly engaged at Winchelsea. School Council operates sub-committees in the areas of Finance & Facilities. The school is lucky to have a number of active volunteers supporting reading and writing, as well as great supports with fundraising activities and community events.
Strong academic and wellbeing outcomes remain at the centre of decision making at WPS. The school utilises evidence-based and contemporary practices, interrogates data to drive further improvement and harnesses the collective expertise of families and the community to provide the best learning program possible.
For students, the values that will be central to this strategic plan remain the same – Learn well, be safe, be kind and respect your school.
For educators, the values that drive their work are clear – be relentless in the pursuit of continual improvement, use data sets and the evidence base to drive decision making, assume best intentions always and work as a network to improve outcomes.
Coming to work here everyday is a wonderful experience. The school is blessed to have a committed and caring team of teachers, kind and thoughtful students and an engaged and passionate parent group.
I am always available to meet with families of current and prospective students and all community members. Nicholas.keating@education.vic.gov.au is the best way to contact me.
